Eulexin
Eulexin (flutamide) is a synthetic antiandrogen used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It is classified as a nonsteroidal antiandrogen (NSAA). Eulexin was first introduced in 1977 and is marketed by Schering-Plough under the brand name Eulexin. The drug is also available in generic form.
Eulexin is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It works by blocking the effects of androgens (male hormones), which may be involved in the growth of some types of prostate cancer.
Eulexin is usually given in combination with another hormone (luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone [LHRH] analog such as goserelin or leuprolide). This combination therapy is known as androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).
Common side effects of Eulexin include:
hot flashes,
decreased sexual ability/desire,
breast tenderness/enlargement,
nausea,
vomiting,
diarrhea,
stomach pain,
constipation,
weight gain,
swelling of the hands/feet,
tiredness,
headache,
dizziness, or
skin rash.
Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Eulexin including:
mental/mood changes (such as anxiety, depression, or confusion),
trouble urinating,
yellowing eyes or skin,
dark urine,
severe stomach/abdominal pain,
jaundice,
easy bruising/bleeding,
unusual fatigue,
muscle weakness,
bone pain, or
signs of liver problems (such as unusual tiredness, persistent nausea/vomiting, severe stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine).
The recommended adult dose of Eulexin ranges from 250 mg three times daily to 500 mg twice daily. Eulexin may interact with ketoconazole, warfarin, or phenytoin. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Eulexin is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It may harm a fetus. Women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not handle crushed or broken tablets. Eulexin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Women taking this medication should not breastfeed.
