How Does Clomid Work?

Clomid works by stimulating the release of eggs from the ovaries. In a normal menstrual cycle, only one egg is released. However, when Clomid is taken, it causes the release of two or more eggs. This increase in eggs increases the chances of pregnancy.

What are the Side Effects of Clomid?

The most common side effects of Clomid include hot flashes, headaches, bloating, and nausea. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own. More serious side effects include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and multiple births. OHSS is a condition in which the ovaries become enlarged and swollen. This can cause abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and fluid retention. OHSS is a rare but serious condition and requires immediate medical attention. Multiple births occur in about 10 percent of women who take Clomid. The risks associated with multiple births include premature birth and low birth weight.
