What is Flomax?
Flomax (tamsulosin) is an alpha-blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Flomax is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men and to relieve urinary difficulties due to BPH.

What are the side effects of tamsulosin?
Tamsulosin may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
headache
dizziness
nausea
weakness
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives)
chest pain
fainting
irregular heartbeat
Tamsulosin may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while you are taking this medication.
What is the most important information I should know about tamsulosin?
You should not take tamsulosin if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
a history of allergic reaction to another alpha blocker medication;
a history of low blood pressure; or
a history of urinary retention (difficulty urinating).
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives)
chest pain
fainting
irregular heartbeat
Before taking tamsulosin, tell your doctor if you have:
kidney disease;
liver disease;
any other medical conditions.
You may experience an increase in dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting when you first start taking tamsulosin. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires mental alertness until you know how tamsulosin affects you.
Do not take tamsulosin with any other alpha blocker medications.
