What should I avoid while taking sildenafil?
Avoid using any other medicines to treat impotence, such as alprostadil or yohimbine, without first talking to your doctor.
Brand Viagra will not prevent pregnancy. If your partner may become pregnant and you wish to avoid pregnancy, be sure to use an effective form of birth control.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of sildenafil.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with sildenafil and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking this medicine.
Avoid using other medicines to treat erectile dysfunction, such as sildenafil (Caverta, Revatio), tadalafil (Cialis), or vardenafil (Levitra). They can cause very dangerous side effects if you take them together with Brand Viagra.
Side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- ringing in your ears, or sudden hearing loss;
- irregular heartbeat;
- swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
- shortness of breath;
- vision changes or sudden vision loss;
- feeling light-headed, fainting; or
- penis erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer.
Sildenafil can decrease blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. This has occurred in a small number of people, most of whom also had heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, and in those who smoked or were over 50 years old.
It is not clear whether sildenafil is the actual cause of vision loss.
Rarely, a sudden decrease or loss of hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears and dizziness, may occur. Stop taking sildenafil and get emergency medical help if you have:
- heart attack symptoms--chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating;
- a series of stroke or heart attack in the past 6 months;
- vision loss in one or both eyes.
Sildenafil may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking sildenafil and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:
- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- chest pain or an irregular heartbeat;
- swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
- shortness of breath;
- vision changes or sudden vision loss;
- feeling light-headed or fainting; or
- an erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer.

Tell your doctor about all your current medicines and any you start or stop using, especially:
- drugs to treat high blood pressure or a prostate disorder;
- an antibiotic--azithromycin, erythromycin
