What is the dosage for Zithromax?
The recommended adult dose of azithromycin for treatment of infections other than sinusitis and community-acquired pneumonia is 500 mg (as two 250 mg tablets taken on the first day), followed by one 250 mg tablet taken at the same time each day for 4 more days.
For sinusitis the recommended adult dose is two 250 mg tablets taken on the first day, followed by one 250 mg tablet taken at the same time each day for 4 more days. For community-acquired pneumonia, the recommended adult dose is 500 mg for the first day, followed by one 250 mg tablet taken at the same time each day for 4 more days.
Azithromycin should be taken with food.
What are the precautions for Zithromax?
Azithromycin should not be used by pregnant women unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Azithromycin should not be used by women who are breast-feeding unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the infant.
Azithromycin should not be used by patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to azithromycin or any of its ingredients.
Azithromycin should be used with caution in patients with liver disease or liver dysfunction.
Azithromycin should be used with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis.
Azithromycin should be used with caution in patients with prolonged QT interval or history of cardiac arrhythmias.
Azithromycin should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment or kidney disease.
There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.
